Nexus Media preps North Paws feature doc

BookShorts producer Judith Keenan joined Nexus Media, headed by former NFB-er Don Duchene, to travel to Yellowknife NT in preparation for an upcoming feature doc shoot.`North Paws` has been commissioned by ichannel and The Pet Network and is supported by CMF.

In addition to pre-pro, she is heading up the initiative to secure complementary funding for both the feature and its companion digital media component.

The film highlights the work of a group of Northern animal rescue volunteers as an entree to the complex and intertwined issues of Northern culture, politics and economy. On a backdrop of stunning landscapes and unique communities and characters, the film aims to deliver three objectives: to show how a small group of people can make a positive difference in their community and beyond; to improve the health and livelihood of the resident dogs; and through stories both personal and universal, to help the South to better understand the North.

TeachingBooks.net provides artist interviews for teachers

Nick Glass at TeachingBooks.net is doing great things for school reading and library activities. The website has been designed for super-easy use, allowing educators to add multimedia dimensions to the reading experiences of children's and young adult books. Their online database is developed and maintained to include thousands of resources about fiction and nonfiction books used in the K–12 environment. One of their programs involves Author Profiles BookShorts has collaborated with TeachingBooks.net in the context of previous Book Expo initiatives; we were happy to renew the partnership by lending a hand in the shooting of an artist interview with best-selling artist _Barbara Reid _and one of her co-writers Jo Ellen Bogart. Walrus Foundation`s digital initiative `The Walrus Laughs`

Shelley Ambrose and her extremely talented team at The Walrus Foundation just keep on finding brilliant ways to share the experience. Fresh off his National Magazine Award for magazine web design, online editor Matthew McKinnon with funny-stuff curator Perry Rosemond launched The Walrus Laughs on Canada Day. Our own Bruce Pirrie (JPod, Confessions of a Pilgrim) penned a very appropro piece called `Happy Compromise Day`specially for the occasion! Judith Keenan lent support in the marrying of Labatt Stella Artois to the project as founding sponsor; she continues to work with The Walrus Foundation this year to expand their sponsorship programs.
