Nickel Independent Film Festival Premiere

The report from co-producer Anna Petras of Newfound FIlms, who represented us at the The Nickel Independent Film Festival as The Fighter made is theatrical premiere in St. John's (Wed. July 19, 2006).

The screening was so great! It opened the night and there were over 125 people there. There was a great feeling in the room and we got two rounds of applause. People really enjoyed it. And many were hounding me to find out "What happens..." which of course opens things up for perfect answer - "Buy the book!" I gave all the info on BookShorts and the novel in my intro and thanked the publisher, funders, broadcasters etc. Many cast and crew were there which was great! And many non-film general audience types who seemed to really enjoy it. People find it violent - which is good in that it is properly representing the novel and not making it all "pretty" like many Canadian adaptations to the screen. I like that honesty.
