JUDITH KEENAN, BOOKSHORTS
Judith Keenan’s 20-year career in Canada and the United
States has been focused on business development and media
production in the culture and entertainment sector, and managed
to both boom and bust in NYC during the dot-com era. She is
currently Executive Producer and founder of BookShorts Inc.
(bookshorts.com).
The companies produce and distribute short films based on
books with the mandate to support media literacy of all kinds.
Since its launch in 2004, BookShorts has produced fourteen
original short films, a national television series (movingstories.tv),
over 100 news videos and author profiles, and maintains an
active video blog. BookShorts are distributed via television
broadcast, Internet and wireless initiatives, live events,
festivals and other multi-platform promotions.

With a career in theatre, arts and film spanning over 15
years, Irene Duma has taken on a variety of filmmaking roles
including actress, comedian, writer, producer and director.
She is also a creative New Media designer/producer and cross-media
storyteller, with an effective combination of creativity and
contagious good humour. Irene founded Strange Duck Media,
a tv and digital media production company, in 2001. She is
currently writing and developing two wireless games, a documentary
series, a feature and a cross-platform comedy serial. Irene
is the creator and director of several original series for
the web, including cult fave "Madame Borshka's European
Beauty Secrets" for the multi-award winning site parody
site "Happy Woman Magazine'. She has also written and
directed the cross-media series "World Radio Webisope,"
which was unveiled at E3 in Los Angeles, and the short animated
film "One Day."

Katerina Cizek is a documentary-maker and the National Film
Board of Canada’s Filmmaker-in-Residence at an inner-city
hospital. She is teaming up with partners at the frontlines
- doctors, nurses and patients - to create collaborative media.
In this blog, she is writing about the day-to-day process,
the ideas behind and the future of “interventionist

MARY LEWIS, FILMMAKER
Mary Lewis was born in Uganda and grew up in Newfoundland.
She studied at Le Petit Seminaire de Quebec, MUN, National
Theatre School, and the Canadian Film Centre. She is an award-winning
actress , writer, and filmmaker as well as a television director.
Her films include: Come Into My Parlour, When Ponds Freeze
Over, Rabbit Punch, Clothesline Patch and The Sparky Book.
She lives in St. John’s with her daughter. Recent awards
include Best Screenplay Award (Flicks Internation Children’s
Film Festival) and Best Experimental Film (Golden Sheaf Awards)
for The Sparky Book (2006).
SHERRY WHITE, FILMMAKER
Sherry White is a screenwriter and actor based out of St.
John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. She was seen performing
in the CBC series Hatching, Matching and Dispatching, and
was the co-star/co-writer/co-creator of the CBC comedy pilot
Rabbittown in 2006. She also wrote and played the lead in
the feature film The Breadmaker, which premiered at Toronto
International Film Festival in 2003.
Currently, she is a writer and performer on CBC’s new
one-hour drama series MVP, and was a performer and co-writer
on the recently wrapped feature film adaptation of Joel Hynes’
Down to the Dirt directed by Justin Simms. She has several
other feature films in development, including Crackie (past
Jim Burt screenwriting prize winner) and Maudie, a film inspired
by the life of folk artist Maud Lewis.
Sherry completed the BFA program in theatre performance from
Memorial University of Newfoundland’s Sir Wilfred Grenfell
College. She was also a Women in the Director’s Chair
Director participant in 2005. Her short film, Diamonds in
a Bucket, which she wrote and directed, will be premiering
at this year’s 2007 Toronto International Film Festival.
