Moving Stories Films Goes On The Road!

Moving Stories Films kicks off its national screening tour on Sunday September 28th at THIN AIR Winnipeg International Writer's Festival. Special guest Randall Maggs, author of Night Work: The Sawchuk Poems (Brick Books) will be in attendance and a short film adaptation of his work will be featured in the program. "This film does what you hope a dramatization will do," says Moving Stories Films advisor and publisher Anne Collins, "expand into the unsaid bits of the poem to bring an even bigger experience to the viewer."

Also in attendance at the Festiva is author David Waltner-Toews, shose BookSHorts film "Food, Sex, and Salmonella" is also in the film program line up.

Paul Quarrington, Susin Nielsen and Judith Keenan explore the process of adaptation in a Moving Stories Master Class on Saturday Sept 27.

The tour hits Winnipeg, St. John's, Ottawa and Vancouver in October, and Toronto in November. Stay tuned for more news as the tour unfolds or visit the Moving Stories Films website for details

Pavane Premiere


Pavane is set to make its national premiere with Moving Stories Films! Based on Paul Quarrington’s latest novel The Ravine, Pavane integrates live action performed by an award-winning cast and ingenuous animation to portray a story about a boy’s loss of innocence. Writer and Director Quarrington, along with producer Judith Keenan will feature Pavane as part of a Master Class series of workshops on the art of book-to-screen adaptation in conjunction with the Moving Stories tour.

Introducing Books in Motion

Industry experts Lynn Rosen and Judith Keenan have joined forces to create Books in Motion, a new marketing program designed to help publishers move their books in the marketplace in Canada and the United States. Books in Motion integrates contemporary new media communications with tried and true traditional marketing to engage readers and reach the widest audience possible. Rosen and Keenan work closely with clients to develop and deliver programs with customized media production, event marketing and virtual promotion programs.

Soucouyant in Short!

A short film adaptation of BC author David Chariandy’s novel Soucouyant (Arsenal Pulp Press) will make its premiere at the Vancouver International Writers Festival on October 28th as part of the Moving Stories Films program. Winners of the “Make A Film On Our Dime” competition Ken Tsui and Brittany Junek are working closely with a team of seasoned professionals including producer Judith Keenan and author/ filmmaker Paul Quarrington to bring their interpretation of Chariandy’s work to the big screen.

Vote for A Life's Passion

A Life’s Passion has been invited to take part in the online competition of the First Glance Film Festival, Philadelphia! Directed by Gary Thomas, the film is a short docu-drama adaptation of James McCreath’s epic novel Renaldo. The competition goes live September 16th on the First Glance Film Festival website.

Night Work Goes to Halifax!


The Night Work: A Sawchuk Poem will be featured at the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax on Wednesday September 17th at 9:30pm. The film is an adaptation of Randall Magg’s book Night Work: The Sawchuk Poems (Brick Books) by Director Justin Simms and screenwriter Greg Spottiswood. This dramatic short is a poignant reflection of hockey legend Terry Sawchuk, underscoring his lasting impression on a young man in a small Newfoundland town.
