BookShorts at St. John's Women's Film Fest

We love the Rock, and the wonderfully hospitable folks that inhabit it. So we're really jazzed to have been invited to screen Archetypes, Directed by Irene Duma based on Mirielle Silcoff's book illustrated by Kagan McLeod; and Director Sue Kenney's full length doc Las Peregrinas will screen as well -- which is not a BookShort but we're a big fan, and its also tied to the book Confessions of a Pilgrim, just like our short!

Even yours truly has a gig, moderating a workshop called Bits and Bytes: Filmmakers Crossing Platforms where Irene, NL artistst Sherry White and Mary Lewis plus NFB Filmmaker in Residence Kat Cizek will show and tell their precedent-setting work.

Face 2 Face is a speed-date for filmmakers and broadcasters that I'll do too, and BookShorts will have exciting news to announce while we're there at the Fest.

iLunch 6.01: The Future of Reading

The digital book: Friend or Foe? A discussion on the role of the publisher, the author and the reader in the online world

Friday October 5, 2007 @ The Gladstone Hotel

Guest Speakers:
Judith Keenan, Founder, BookShorts
Malle Vallik, Director of Digital Content & Interactivity, Harlequin Enterprises Ltd.
Mike O'Connor, Publisher, Insomniac Press

Moderated by:
Rosemarie Shannon, Director of Technology, Kids Can Press

Though not entirely novel, this idea needs to be addressed - NOW. What can publishers do to plan, create, innovate and position themselves in the online world? The advantages of the digital book are numerous – for example, the expenses saved on printing and shipping could be a boon for publishers, authors and consumers. BUT...By creating digital books, are publishers hastening their own demise; OR securing their continued position as the broker of content between the creators and the consumers?

Barry Callaghan, Man of Letters on screen

We could have put the whole half-hour interview up, it was that good. Interviewer Ray Robertson did a fantastic job prompting master storyteller Barry Callaghan through his colourful life and intriguing literary accomplishments.

McArthur's commissioned video profiles s now posted on BookShorts.com/blog

Delible Makes its mark despite the rain

Congrats to Anne Stone on doing a great job during Vancouver's Word on the Street! Even though it was a challenge weather-wise and strike-wise, her BookShorts video was viewed over 700 times on the two days Sep 29 and 30 alone!

Power to the authors! Kudos to Insomniac!

BookShorts launches Chapters Indigo Book Club

Have you checked out the new Community on ChaptersIndigo.ca? If you are a true geek - both book and technology that is -- you will LOVE the ease with which Carolyn, Pamela and her team have made this the easiest darn thing to use. For those of us in the trade, its a no-brainer. With 500 in-house staff and probably as many store staff across the country, their starting point is probably bigger than the aver Facebook club right outta the gate.

When you get there, and if you compound your already jammed life with movie-watching too, join the BookShorts Group for those who just can't compartmentalize.
