BookSurge Author Commissions Film for US Launch

JAMES MCCREATH has lead a passionate life. It's a life made twisted, interesting and ultimately that much richer by the vississitudes of Fate. Of course we all live fateful lives of one sort or another, but its a wonderful thing when a person translates their real world experiences into the realm of fiction, and becomes an artist.

That's just what James has done with his novel RENALDO. As filmmakers, we needed to look no farther than James himself when BookShorts was commissioned to bring his novel to the screen. We're right in the thick of post-production now, and will deliver the film to James in time for his US publicity tour in January 2008.

Directed by Gary Thomas; Screenplay by John Karolidis; Animation by Chris Roth, Adrian Lawrence, and Tony Rmayon; Sound and Music by David Fleury; Produced by Judith Keenan, Stephanie Pennington and Meredith at Crush with special thanks to David Hicks and Bruce Pirrie.

2008 Production Slate Open to Publishers, Author

The BookShorts film team wants you!

Actually, we want your manuscripts because our ambitious goal is to make ten new films and profiles between now and the myriad celebratory events planned around Book Expo in June 2008.

The process starts with great books. Although we favour Canadian authors and Canadian publishers, there is room on the production slate for authors and titles of all types.

Titles coming out between APRIL 2008 and APRIL 2009 are ideal candidates for the BookShort treatment -- it gives us plenty of time to produce in advance of the book's pub date.

Call us to talk about an accompanying production in one of a range of styles, from our Short Film Program where we produce a full adaptation from book to movie or our Author Profile Program where we create richly illustrated on-screen interviews with writers complete with music soundtracks.

BookShorts also offers assistance with distribution for the films we produce. Read more about this year's plans at Services to Authors and Publishers

Poem by John McCrae Comes Alive in new song & video

In November 2006, Mission BC songwriter Anthony Hutchcroft composed new music for his adaptation of “IN FLANDERS FIELDS”, the iconic First World War poem written by Canadian Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. A few months later Mr. Hutchcroft went into the studio and recorded his vocal performance of the song.

The result is a haunting and spectacular performance that takes McCrae’s poem from dramatic words to a stirring and uplifting musical anthem.

Pangaea Music is the Music Publishing division of Pangaea Media & Music Inc. Tony Tobias and his team are proud to represent the songs of multi-award winning songwriters Ken Tobias and Jessica Rhaye.
