Rona Maynard on My Mother's Daughter is "honest and enthralling" (Alice Munro)

http://www.bookshorts.com/ - "My mother gave birth to me twice. The first time is a matter of record. The second, almost forty years later, took place at her deathbed." Rona Maynard finds the heart of the mother-daughter relationship - with all its wonderous angst, joy, frustration, and irreplaceable depth - in the very first line of the prologue. "My Mother's Daughter" is Rona's memoir, a book she states that she could not have written while her domineering and fiercely loving parent was alive. With honesty, Rona continues in the book to recount the effects both personal and professional of her mom, through the family dissolution, her own ascedency to become the editor of Chatelaine for ten years, including her mother's final subtle blessing.

We are privileged to have Jessica Rhaye's poignant song, Beautiful, with which to tell Rona's story in this BookShorts profile. The track is from her most recent recording "Jessica Rhaye-Short Stories" more of which viewers can find at http://www.jessicarhaye.com/ .

Interview shot during BookExpo Canada, as part of the Script to Screen Program sponsored by Reed Exhibitions. Judith Keenan, Producer; Jason Pichonsky, Camera; Kerry Biskupski, Editor. For more BookShorts, visit http://www.movingstories.tv/.
