Lovers, Detectives and Serial Killers - a day in the life of ALL THE PRETTY GIRLS

www.movingstories.tv -- JT Ellison is certainly a looker (that smile lit up the whole show floor!) but even more shes a watcher. How else could she write such a deliciously grisly thriller that gets right into the twisted head of her murdering protagonist *and* her empowered Homicide Lieutenant Taylor Jackson at the same time? Not content with just one dichotomy, she throws in a lover for TJ with all that that entails -- FBI Profiler John Baldwin (though I gotta tell ya, *I* want a John Baldwin! Every woman should have a John Baldwin!).

ALL THE PRETTY GIRLS demonstrates that Nashville police are a sharing lot, cause there is lots of realistic detail that keeps the reader engaged in this debut novel. Its another title from Mira, that line out of Harlequin that is expressly devoted to the thriller genre, and so far its a line just as addictive as their brand name would suggest. JT has two more coming down the pike, "14" and "Judas Kiss" and though they may seem far away in time, you can keep on getting JT hits with her columns for Murderati.com every Friday. For more about JT, visit www.jtellison.com.

The music for this interview is a track by PORKBELLY FUTURES called "Lonely Stranger" from their CD called WAY PAST MIDNIGHT availalble at http://www.porkbellys.com/ or from Wildflower Records -- many thanks to the band!

Michelle Gagnon Debut Thriller THE TUNNELS Gets Under Your Skin

www.movingstories.tv -- MICHELLE GAGNON is a fresh and confident new voice in crime fiction, and THE TUNNELS marks an auspicious debut. So says John Lescroart, and that guy would certainly be the guy to say so. Having voraciously consumed the thriller myself, I have testify to the fact that Michelle is deceiving. She is just a wee slip of a thing in person, but those pages of hers pack a real punch.

Mira was just launching their first titles at BookExpo America this year, and from the few titles I've read so far, they've hit a strong stride right out of the gate. These are gritty and engrossing mystery thrillers written by women. Yup, its a Harlequin imprint, but that little icon doesn't appear anywhere on the cover (oh come on and read em, they're a *Canadian* publisher!). For those who may have already discovered Michelle, her next book BONEYARD will be out in April.

IN AND DOWN by Brett Savory is more than a carnival

BookShorts.com -- In Brett Alexander Savory's new novel, In and Down (Brindle & Glass, Sept 07), one could simplistically say a disturbed boy gets lost inside the frightening carnival of his own bizarre thoughts. But we agree with Quill and Quire bestowing a starred review, citing the book as a "masterful piece of work" and "transcending the conventions of the genre." Our filmic art-piece barely does justice, with a gesture to the wonderfully creepy dream-state that Brett evokes through the spiralling story. For those of you who love a psychically horrific tale (not the blood-splattering type, though you'll find the book in the horror section) and maximum fodder for cinematic nightmares, dive in and you will not be disappointed. This interview Sponsored by BookExpo Canada Script to Screen Program.

"If you gave me 10 words to describe Brett Savory's writing style, I'd only need 5: Like A House On Fire." -Craig Davidson, Author of The Fighter -- watch Craig's BookShort and many more on www.MovingStories.TV!

Speed Dating at BEA - Video Preview

www.bookshorts.com ... Speed dating at BEA? You bet. In a clever spin on a practice prevalent in the singles dating scene, the Children's Booksellers and Publishers Committee, a cooperative committee of the ABA, ABC and CBC, has devised a way for booksellers to get to know authors - quickly. (see Publishers Weekly for more of this article!)

"Speed Dating with Children's Authors" was also a terrific way for BookShorts to record excellent mini-author interviews! This is just a quickly compiled, day-after preview -- watch the blog for more!

S&S to Launch Video Channel

www.bookshorts.com -- This is the second major multinational to make a big committment to the filmic medium for author support (the other that I know of being Random House and their online book club BookLounge.ca) - we're *very* excited to see the industry stepping up and using the power of moving pictures -- a committment BookShorts has held since 1994!

By Lynn Andriani for Publisher's Weekly

Simon & Schuster has teamed with the Internet video company TurnHere Inc. to launch a "book-centric video channel" that will promote S&S authors and their new books. Bookvideos.tv will begin in early June, and the videos will also be available at SimonSays.com, YouTube and the authors' own Web sites. Though S&S has produced videos to promote its authors in the past, the venture with TurnHere represents a stronger and more formal commitment to using video to market authors. S&S will create videos for at least 40 authors, including Mary Higgins Clark, Kathy Reichs, Michael Roizen and Mehmet Oz, Jennifer Weiner and Zane.

Sue Fleming, v-p of online and consumer marketing for S&S's adult publishing group, said the company is drawing more heavily on video to promote authors, based on reader feedback. She noted video's ability to "replicate, for the digital age, the critical and time tested word-of-mouth excitement that comes from talking about a good read." S&S has previously used videos to promote its books—recent examples include last year's Joy of Cooking, Jodi Picoult's Nineteen Minutes and the Newbery-winning Higher Power of Lucky—but the partnership with TurnHere embodies its move "from a one-off to a more concerted or systematic attempt through the use of video to raise consciousness about our authors on the Web," said Adam Rothberg, of S&S's corporate communications department. One of the key ways people will find the videos will be via search engines; S&S is working on tagging all the videos so that they turn up when people search for an author on Google and other sites.
